Over the past 30 years, drunk driving caused more than 1 million injuries and 50 thousand fatal incidents, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving data. For California this problem is very urgent, because the number of DUI crashes in California may increase. An effective way to fight driving under the influence is ignition interlock device. Interlock Ignition Device (IID) is currently mandated in 4 California counties after a DUI conviction. The legislature believes that the IID usage is necessary to use in all California counties. The current law implements IID after a DUI only in 4 California counties – Los Angeles, Tulare, Alameda, and Sacramento. In these counties drivers convicted of DUI must install ignition interlock device in their cars. […]

Law Enforcement looks at drug usage as a DUI waiting to happen. This is especially a problem for Los Angeles DUI prosecution, which is aware of medicinal and recreational marijuana in Los Angeles. Driver’s impairment is a factor in drug DUI prosecution and the more a driver appears impaired, the more likely he would face police scrutiny, prosecution, and punishments. Presently, the chemical tests used by police to determine drug impairment are insufficient. Almost any presently used tests, such as blood or urine analysis, are inaccurate because, unlike alcohol, drugs can remain in the human body much longer. Also, urine and blood tests are very slow and do not return results of the actual narcotics levels until days later. Recently, […]
Earlier this month, two LAPD officers were charged with perjury and felony conspiracy for writing a false police report and protecting a drunk driver against possible prosecution. Both officers deny their implication in the wrongdoing. LAPD officers Rene Ponce and Irene Gomez were on duty on 26 October, 2014 when they were dispatched to a scene of a vehicle accident at the 3000 block of East Side Boulevard. The accident possibly involved a DUI driver that crashed into two parked cars. The officers chose not to carry out a sobriety test on the driver, as mandated by LAPD policy, or to conduct a drunk-driving investigation. Instead, they took the driver home and told him to get enough sleep, prosecutors stated. […]
