The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides grants that are used to finance some local and state public agencies every year. The main aim of the OTS programs is to reduce the fatality and injury accident rate on the roadways and to reduce the economic losses caused by drunk driving in California. This aim is accomplished through additional law enforcement and through raising public awareness of the dangers of DUI-related offenses. On October 5, 2016, the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department in conjunction with OTS embarked upon a year-long “Driving Clearly” campaign, aimed to prevent DUI-related injuries and fatalities in the city. The financing for this campaign is provided by a $250,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic […]

For California this problem is very urgent, because the number of DUI crashes in California may increase. An effective way to fight driving under the influence is ignition interlock device. Interlock Ignition Device (IID) is currently mandated in 4 California counties after a DUI conviction. The legislature believes that the IID usage is necessary to use in all California counties. The current law implements IID after a DUI only in 4 California counties – Los Angeles, Tulare, Alameda, and Sacramento. In these counties drivers convicted of DUI must install ignition interlock device in their cars. […]

Law Enforcement looks at drug usage as a DUI waiting to happen. This is especially a problem for Los Angeles DUI prosecution, which is aware of medicinal and recreational marijuana in Los Angeles. Driver’s impairment is a factor in drug DUI prosecution and the more a driver appears impaired, the more likely he would face police scrutiny, prosecution, and punishments. Presently, the chemical tests used by police to determine drug impairment are insufficient. Almost any presently used tests, such as blood or urine analysis, are inaccurate because, unlike alcohol, drugs can remain in the human body much longer. Also, urine and blood tests are very slow and do not return results of the actual narcotics levels until days later. Recently, […]
